What attracted us to Laurige was the evident passion that its owners, Christian Baudoin and Steven Ross, have for their business and the care that goes into manufacturing its products. Leathers are chosen for texture and durability, and all the cutting and stitching is done by just 18 artisans under the watchful eye of les deux Monsieurs. It is a traditional family enterprise which has grown steadily since 1950 by focusing on design and refusing to compromise on its quality.

Its briefcases, in particular, manage the difficult trick of being extremely stylish but also practical and modestly priced, and it is those products which Carbolic has chosen to offer its customers.

The model shown on this page is - in the vernacular - the 'chic laptop serviette', serviette being the French word for briefcase. It comes in 8 colours ranging from traditional black, brown and red to lighter, fun pastels.

Functionally, the briefcase is ideal for busy professionals. It has two zipped compartments and one poppered one. The first zipped compartment is big enough for laptops up to 17" wide and sturdily protected on all sides. The second can accommodate a thick bunch of papers and files, and has three internal pockets for pens etc. The poppered compartment is wide enough for A4 papers, and meant for easy access. In a nice touch that shows how Laurige thinks about its products, the underside has two small castings on each end to protect the leather when you sit it on the ground. A shoulder strap is also supplied.

For a fashionable, functional piece of French design that will serve you well in your travels but not cost and arm and a leg, you really couldn't do better.
